Ditsobotla municipality mayor' squabbles

Mayor of Ditsobatla local Municipality Cllr Daniel Buthelezi  is steadfast in his position of leadership even  after  his counterparts within the municipality have tendered their resignation.  The speaker and Chief Whip of the municipality paved the way for the mayor by tendering their resignation as requested by Interim Provincial committee (IPC) of the ANC only for Cllr Buthelezi to take the matter to North West High Court.

However The Ditsobotla local municipality noted with dismay a ruling with an order of the North West High Court, Mafikeng, that Cllr Tebogo Daniel Buthelezi be re-instated as Mayor of Ditsobotla local municipality effective, immediately from 31 December 2020. The judgement of the High Court on the matter was brought before Council for noting, during a Special Council sitting held on 07 January 2021 and it was confirmed that he will continue with his tenure not the deployed Cllr Tsholofelo Moreo. This was also confirmed by the municipality communications manager Pius Batsile.

The community of Ditsobotla experienced the turmoil within the ANC leadership as they were led by two African National Congress (ANC) mayors in one month.

According to IPC spokesperson Kenny Morolong the instability within the leadership of the municipality is said to be the reason why IPC took such measures.  Our aim is to “bring stability within Ditsobotla” noted. The troubled municipality which is under section 139 administration removed the previous appointed administrator “due to lack of cooperation and infighting within the municipality leadership” said Morolong. ‘Our concern is about our ability as the ANC” and the confidence we want our community to have on us, he continued.

With regard to the claims of Factions’ battle and interest within the ruling party, Morolong explained that the municipality was already under turmoil with ongoing protests and lack of service delivery even before the current municipality mayor was sworn in. There have been issues of “ maladministration, corruption and violent service delivery protest” before the IPC came, explained Morolong.

Speaking on behalf of the IPC Morolong declared no confidence in the current ANC leadership of Ditsobotla which is the reason they mandated their deployee to adhere to the decisions of the ruling party.  Ditsobotla is one of the five municipalities of which their Speaker, Chief Whip and Mayor were ousted. Other municipalities includes Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati district, Mahikeng, Maquassi Hills and Matlosana local municipalities.
